COMMITTEE for WORLD DEMOCRACY
Winter 2004 Political and Educational Film Series Presents:
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
On April 11, 2002, democratically-elected Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez—new icon of the left and a thorn in the side of the U.S Administration—was removed from office and replaced by a dictatorial government. What had in fact taken place was the first Latin American coup of the 21st century. In an up close and personal profile of this charismatic and unorthodox world leader, filmmaker Kim Bartley and Donnacha O’Brian chart the last seven months in the run up to the coup, and Chavez’s dramatic return to power some 48 hours later. (Ireland, 2003)
