Gracias por su carta expresando preocupación por el bienestar de Alejandro Plaz, Maria Corina Machado y Jose Luis Caleya. La persecución política de estos indivíduos, y otros miembros de SUMATE, es un acontecimiento perturbante que requiere la atención de todos aquellos comprometidos con una resolución pacífica, democrática, constitucional y electoral de la crisis política en Venezuela.

La persecución del liderazgo de SUMATE es un acto de intimidación designado a reprimir el libre ejercicio de los derechos humanos y politicos. El coraje de Alejandro Plaz, Maria Corina Machado, Jose Luis Caleya, Luis Enrique Palacios y otros miembros de SUMATE es admirable. Es un coraje que ha definido movimientos democraticos por todo el mundo. Es un coraje que ha ganado respeto y solidaridad. Nosotros continuaremos ofreciendo nuestro apoyo a estos personas y organizaciones. Intimidación, amenazas y repression no tienen papel ninguno en un proceso libre y democrático.

Nosotros hacemos una llamada al gobierno venezolano de cesar su acoso a estos individuos y otros, y de dedicarse a garantizar el libre ejercicio de los derechos democráticos.
