Video Documentary on the Political situation in Venezuela
The Revolution will not be Televised
On April 2002, a coup was launched by upper class political leaders, a section of the military, and the corporate media, against Hugo Chávez, the elected President of Venezuela. 48 hours later, thousands of working-class Venezuelans took the streets, and along with loyal military officers, overthrew the dictator and reinstated Chávez into office. Meanwhile, the local media was just showing cartoons and soap operas.
Two Irish filmmakers witnessed these events and caught them on film. The result is not only a brilliant piece of journalism but also an astonishing portrait of class forces in Venezuela. On one side stand the Versace wearing classes, rich from many decades of oil revenues, and on the other the poor in their barrios who support Chávez.
